Simply Jason began DJing in 1989 playing Breakbeat & Drum & Bass after meeting two lads from London England while on vacation in Orlando Florida. These two individuals (Raymond & Damian) travelled from Orlando to Clearwater for the better part of the week to become very close friends. After returning to Toronto, Simply Jason discovered a parcel of records in the mail, and later received many more which truly motivated him to develop his mixing skills. Several years later, and moving into house and Techno after being intorduced to DJ Bliss (Switch Records & Plus8 Recording Artist), Simply Jason found his calling... Spending much time learning his new genre with Bliss, and also doing some work in the studio with Himadri (Switch Owner) allowed for a broader perspective of influences than his initial roots...
In 1998, Simply Jason began to build a studio with only a 4mb Sampler (to which he released an unmastered minimal CD under the artist "THISguythatGUY"). Since that point, SImply Jason has spent the last few years honing his skills in both the analogue (48trk studio) and digital (Logic & Pro Tools) realms.
Having worked in Film as a Sound Effects editor for 7 years (nominated for a Gemini) allowed Simply Jason to develop his sound design capabilites... This is what led to the true sound that is now recognizable as SImply Jason... Not one for using many presets, etc... He spends most of his time resampling his own loops, and layering his sounds with such depth that after listening through a complete mix, the listener is able to hear different sounds each time through... This is the unique quality found in the sound created by Simply Jason...
Simply Jason has worked installing digital mix systems (Pro Tools) for major labels such as EMI, Sony, and several recording suites in the Toronto area, as well as the Head office of the R.C.M.P. His sound tends to lean more to sound design than music, and with each opporunity to listen to a complete set composed by Simply Jason, the listener is able to grasp the depths within this creative mind...
Having researched both the psychology of sound and influences on brain patterns in relation to pattern and frequency response, Simply Jason's older music is more a type to be played in the background and take you on a journey than it is a listen to track by track basis. His newer projects, however, focus on the future and development of these exposures and intertwine the approaches of earlier material in a new direction. Search the iCompositions site for older style tracks to understand the overall perspective of the philosphy behind Simply Jason's sound design experience.
