I've used virtual DJ in the past, and found it to be very good but prefer to use Mixmeister for mix CDs as it's able to insert track markers, which makes my life a little bit easier.

To be honest, Virtual DJ is your best option. I love it's mixing. The USB Decks you can get for it are amazing quality. I'd stick with it.

I use TRAKTOR at home with M-Audio Xponent. And when I am out and about I bring the MacBook and time coded vinyl and CDs. I don't understand the point of mixmeister, I guess people use it to make perfect mixes of there favorite tracks.

What's up MDS friends.

I use pioneer cd decks with denon mixer but tried virtual dj & was very impressed with its beat lock I tried traktor le & found it was trying to do what my decks do but without the same feel but I like the hands on feel of real decks with a pioneer effects unit for interest twist on the sound

Numark Total controll is the shit. I am toying around witih Zulu from NCH Software for mixing an checkng out MIXXX from Mixxx.Org. Like I said in my thread about the software side of mixing, its all a personal choice because they all at top paid download work just about the same.

If you are on a budget check out Zulu or Mixxx. Also if you can, check for a used copy of Traktor online. That program is really nice.

Nothin but 2 turntables over here. I'm old-school and even tho I have used CD decks and MP3 mixers, I am against them. My tables are pretty damn old now (need an upgrade) and you could almost call them belt driven because my pitch control and everything else is so F'd up that I need to stay on top of things every second.
May seem like too much work but I am a hiphop DJ and cant bring myself to use anything else but tables. I also cant stand how these mixing programs basically blend , match beats, and do the whole mix without the user puttin in work. Get some turntables and see what it is really like to mix & scratch without a prog to match beats.

I feel what you are saying Z-Money about the software doing a lot of the work. I am like this on that, I would like for the DJ that I pay to go see put in some work, however at the same time do we get mad at a airline pilot putting the plane on auto pilot? But again I totally feel where you are coming from with the effort part of the DJ.

As a promoter I would really want my DJ to put in some work and not let the software just do everything. If I have to pay hundreds or thousands for there talent, please display that talent and not let the software be that.

My lady and I were just at a venue and was watching one of the DJ's and clearly the lady wasn't doing a lot but making good money to be up in the booth. If DJ's keep that shit up we will have a hip-hop flux where every one thinks they can DJ just like everybody and there momma can rap, lol.

Personally, I think Virtual DJ is a piece of shit. If you wanna really get into DJ'ing you wanna pick yourself up a mixer and two decks, if you wanna go for a great DJ'ing tool on your computer maybe to use on a laptop while in the club or wherever I find that Image-Line is pretty reliable and dose a great job. Check out Dekadance. But trust me, it's really easy to make your money back DJ'ing so start off small and add on to your gear and setup getting bigger as you go.
I've got some good stuff coming for you!

While I agree that using 2 turntables is the best way to learn how to DJ, software does have its place in the DJ world. Serato is a great piece of kit and only last week I've been using Sony acid Pro to create a couple of mega mixes and chop around tracks to make my own edits for playing out.

A friend of mine has used that Acid Pro to makes mixes and I just don't understand that. It's tracking software so how does that work?
