I've been in a discussion with many of my friends lately about one single topic. Laptop DJ's... or wavies as we call them, short for microwave djs. When this topic is being discussed someone always pokes in and says the same thing... "vinyl is the only way". Now a small part of me agrees. Vinyl is a true and pure recording and as fas I'm concerned just sounds wonderful. Like the difference between a solid state amp and the warm beautiful sound of a tube amp. (I'm also a guitar player, so thats a personal side comparison). Anyway, the whole point of the discussion of wavies is that they take a major shortcut to mixing and totally throw away what a seasoned DJ has spent years learning, not what medium you use to mix (vinyl or cd, because it takes the same amount of skill) and then these wavies have the nerve to actually call themselves djs. It's a disgrace to the name. I have been a DJ for going on 12 years now and just relying on a program with a sync button does not make you a DJ. I'd love to take some wavie and hand them a couple records or cds, put them on some decks in front of a thousand people and tell them to mix perfect. OK so I guess I went on a bit of a rant there.
